AI is not inevitable

Our Vision

We believe people have a right to know how much AI threatens their family, their friends, and their future — and how little is being done to protect them.

AI companies are working to replace all human workers and concentrate power in the hands of a few tech elites.  In their race for dominance, they are building ever more powerful systems without knowing how to control them.  AI companies’ activities could subvert the political system, reduce human agency and influence, and increase risk of war.  Politicians, elites, and companies are failing to acknowledge the severity of these risks or the actions needed to address them.  We are in a state of crisis and the public has a right to know.

AI is not inevitable.  We must end the race to replace humanity.

The risks posed by AI companies’ pursuit of “Superintelligence” are unacceptable.  Stopping the race to build Superintelligence is sensible, possible, and a moral imperative.  Scaling up AI relies on an extremely concentrated supply chain, unprecedented levels of investment, and the support of governments around the world — it's not a law of nature, it’s an immense project that only proceeds through deliberate effort.

We are a new organization focused on informing and organizing the public around societal-scale risks and harms of AI.

Founded by AI professor David Krueger, Evitable provides the public with uncompromising, independent perspectives on AI.  David has been an influential advocate on AI risk within the AI research community for over a decade.  In 2023, he initiated the CAIS Statement on AI Risk, alerting the world to the growing expert concern that AI might lead to human extinction.  As companies openly pursue Superintelligent AI that could replace humanity, public opposition is more critical — and powerful — than ever.

We’re hiring for roles in operations and communications, and looking for a chief of staff to work closely with David to drive forward our mission and growth. We’re also having exploratory conversations to develop movement strategy and partnerships, and looking on an ongoing basis for an experienced movement builder with an outstanding track record to lead these efforts. Early employees will play a large role in shaping the culture and direction of this org. If you think the public has a right to know what’s happening and an important role to play, you could be a great fit!
